All Things Postponed.

Well, today we were supposed to have Kata's Birthday party at Snip-Its...and due to the Winter Storm Warning and now the State of Emergency because of the Fernley Flood...Snip-Its decided to close for the day...hmmm...not too many kids venturing out to get haircuts...they were nice enough to move the party to next Saturday...so hold on tight to your hats, folks...we may still have a Glamour Party.

There were a few people who wanted to see Ken shovelling snow...so without further adieu...and it was nice and early in the morning as you can tell from the lack of light...about 7-ish...we only got about 3-4 inches of snow...more scheduled for tonight...the Weather Service is forecasting 5-6" on the valley floor...that would be us!

And the Helpers came out to aid Daddy in his snow removal efforts....

Not to be outdone...Becks...joined in...he was as big a help as the kids...

I stayed behind...and made chocolate chip pancakes for the crew....

Wishing you a warm, chocolate-chip pancake day!

All Things TV.

So with the Winter Storm Warning in effect, Alex and I braved the monsoon like elements and went out to tour our Fox Channel 11 station with the rest of the Cub Scout den...Alex loved the fact everything was computerized and had buttons...

They explained commercials to the boys so now they may pay more attention to them...at least they are beginning to understand the term "revenue generating"...Ken wishes I did as well...ahem...guess I had to pay attention in those Accounting Classes at grad school...oops.

Alex loved the Control Room...and the fact they let him press buttons in post-production...he was also the first one to sit and be on TV...he could hardly wait...I am certain his 15 minutes of Fame are not up yet...watch out Anderson Cooper!!

Wishing you a ray of sunshine...and hoping we get not-so-very-much snow tomorrow....

All Things Grateful.

Our friend, Rick, is serving a second tour of duty in Iraq...right now...as I write this.

I came across this video as a reminder of something we can all do for our service men and women...thank them.

Uncle Ricky, stay safe and warm and don't miss Robin Williams next time he comes around!!!

On our front (much safer, much warmer...and probably just as loud as all out war), we're bracing for a *big* storm that's just beginning to hit us...so hold on to your party hats...Kata's party tomorrow may have to be postponed...or canceled...I think we'll try a year of celebrating her Half Birthday in June!!

All Things New.

First...
It was Kata's *FIFTH* birthday yesterday...I can't believe that our oldest daughter is *5*!!! Yikes, it was just yesterday that she was in my arms in that hospital bed while we rocked to Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve...and I knew that my New Year's celebrations were never going to be the same again....I think it's great that she picked her own date (even tho' the c-section was scheduled for a week later)...and that it's a day the whole world celebrates with her...Happy Birthday Baby Girl!
The day started of with the Birthday Princess requesting an IHOP breakfast...which her royal servants willingly provided for her...

Later in the day, we tortured Kata by making her sit through dinner with her presents piled high in front of her...while Ken made her favorite meal...mac and cheese...from the box...because it tastes way better than when I make it from scratch....
And then the Present Unwrapping process began...a lovely Hannah Montana outfit from Auntie Daphne...

Junie B. Jones books from Alex and Bella and Auntie Daphne...

High School Musical outfit from Mama and Dada...so she can display her Wildcat pride...

And...a Hannah Montana Dance game from us...complete with wig and headset...file under Things That Are Important To Kata Right Now...

and then...drum roll...a big box arrived that very day...and Kata was dying to find out what was inside...something from Maka, Baka and Djedo....
Her very own American Girl doll...
And she has glasses just like Kata...imagine that...

Bella got some of the princess figurines...they were supposed to be on the cake...but Kata only wanted Ariel...and when you are the Birthday Princess...your wish is everyones command.
And the nice lady at the Disney store, upon hearing that we had a pouty brother...gave us some pirate stuff...modeled nicely by Alex and then...Ken.
Time for birthday candles...and an assist from Auntie Daphne with her handy dandy lighter...

Happy Birthday...make a wish...don't tell us!....don't tell Alex!....
It's Hannah Montana time...I told you...there was a wig...a microphone...and a dance DVD....

Second-(remember the "First"...in that opening paragraph??)

We want to wish you a very Happy New Year...remember to dance like no one's watching...sing with all your heart...and enjoy every second of the next 365 days...may the be filled with happiness, health and lots of humor!
